BREAKING NEWS: Steele withdraws - endorses De Vries in District 5

Rex Joseph "Joe" Steele, candidate for House Seat B in Legislative District 5, announced he was withdrawing from the race and putting his support behind Ken De Vries of St. Maries.  Read Mr. Steele's  statement below:

From serving in the Marines, studying the Constitution and words of the Founders as well as a model modern examples of how a legislator should act within constitutional bounds, Ron Paul, I decided that I would put myself back on the front lines by running for office.  I had become disaffected with many politicians placing their own self-interests above the good of the whole and acting under misguided notions of what the proper role of government is thereby decreasing our individual liberties and overall qualities of life and individual responsibility.  Because I felt I could contribute and felt strongly about these issues, I threw my hat in the ring even though I have other work/school/family responsibilities including a bar exam.  Additionally, subsequent to filing for office my wife began a difficult pregnancy.

Though I don't know Ken DeVries (one of my opponents) personally, I have come to the pleasant realization that he is also dedicated to constitutional principles and would not kowtow to self-serving interests but would seek for greater individual liberty and proper government action. Because of my limiting circumstances and more importantly the caliber of a constitutional candidate that we have in Ken DeVries, I have decided to bow out of this race and support Ken DeVries. He is also properly equipped with the necessary support and resources to wage a successful campaign against the democratic challenger.

For Liberty,

R. Joe Steele
